FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 14, 2017

HOUSTONGringo’s Mexican Kitchen reopened the Champions location in Spring, TX, on Tuesday, December 12. The Tex-Mex restaurant is back in business 108 days after Hurricane Harvey hit the area. Out of the 11 Gringo’s restaurants, Champions was the only location to sustain extensive damage due to the storm. “The reopening of the Champions restaurant is exciting and surreal,” said Joel Perkins, operating partner and franchisee owner of Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen restaurants. “The recovery process has been driven by our team members and the surrounding community, we are thankful to be able to welcome guests once again.”

The storm flooded the location with 4 feet of water, damaging the restaurant so severely that it had to be completely remodeled. During the closure, team members were placed at other Gringo’s locations, with over 50 employees continuing to work during the recovery process. “We couldn’t be happier to be back in the community!” added Rebecca Roses, corporate training director of Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen restaurants.

The remodel completely transformed the Tex-Mex eatery, adding an open-concept to the dining area with a panel of glass separating the guests from the kitchen—giving them a sneak-peek behind-the-scenes. The bar stands as the focal point in the middle of the restaurant, inviting visitors to enjoy a margarita or cerveza.

“I am proud of the hard work towards recovering and reopening the popular Champions location,” said Russell Ybarra, President/CEO of Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen and Jimmy Changas restaurants, “the strength and heart of the Gringo’s Family is apparent in the stunning transformation.” Visit Gringo’s Champions location for savory menu items that go beyond the usual Tex-Mex variety.
